If you’ve dreamed of being a documentary filmmaker, an investigative reporter, a podcaster, or a long-form magazine writer, the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York can start you on your way. You can choose from a wide variety of media specialties taught by some of the finest practitioners in the field.
Who better to teach the art of documentary journalism than filmmaker Yoruba Richen, a winner of numerous awards and grants, including a $50,000 Guggenheim Fellowship, for her documentary work?
We also have Andy Lehren, senior editor on the NBC News investigations team, training the next generation of investigative reporters; award-winning multimedia producer Bob Sacha giving hands-on instruction in video storytelling and virtual reality; photojournalist John Smock demonstrating camera techniques; Pulitzer-prize-winning podcast host and producer Maggie Freleng teaching audio journalism, and magazine contributor Frederick Kaufman teaching feature and narrative writing.
Our extensive curriculum allows you to develop proficiency in whatever journalistic track compels you. Read on to find out more about our visual journalism and investigative reporting specialties and how to make one of them your area of expertise.
