What makes New York such a rich city? Will New York always be dependent on Wall Street? How have tourism and tech diversified its economy? Is the era of New York over?
Greg David, director of the Business & Economics Reporting Program, answers those questions as he takes viewers on a walking tour of New York City’s economy on “Study with the Best”, a show produced by CUNY TV.
The feature is based on his new book, Modern New York: The Life and Economics of a City, to be published April 9 by Palgrave Macmillan. Based on his more than two decades of studying the city economy as editor of Crain’s New York Business, Modern New York tells the history of the last 50 years of New York’s economy, the triumph of Wall Street and how it made New York rich and New Yorkers greedy, and how mayors have shaped the city for both good and ill. It also probes the city’s future.
