BRINGING ACCOUNTABILITY TO PUERTO RICO: How the media has covered an island in turmoil
In the last five years, Puerto Rico has been roiled by a series of crises—from a bankrupt economy to a government beleaguered by failed leadership and a hurricane that decimated the island. This panel of journalists will examine how well the media has covered these connected challenges as well as the island’s ongoing attempts to restructure and recover.
The event is free, but registration is required.
MODERATOR:
Luis Trelles, editor & producer, NPR’s Radio Ambulante
PANELISTS:
Carla Minet, executive director, Center for Investigative Journalism in Puerto Rico
Patricia Mazzei, Miami bureau chief, The New York Times
Adrian Florido, reporter for Code Switch, National Public Radio
Nick Brown, correspondent, Reuters
Before the panel, CUNY Chancellor Felix V. Matos Rodriguez will set the stage by discussing why accurate and robust coverage of Puerto Rico is essential to all Americans – both on and off the island.
This event is sponsored by the McGraw Center for Business Journalism.
