Meet Aisyah Llewellyn, deputy editor of New Naratif, a Southeast Asia-based long-form journalism platform that focuses on democracy and human rights, and Ranto Sibarani, New Naratif’s legal advisor and a human rights lawyer.
Learn about their unique journalism model including their newsletter Hukum (meaning “law” in Bahasa Indonesia), which provides in-depth investigations into Indonesian legal cases.
Over the past year, Aisyah and Ranto have investigated human rights issues and current affairs all over Indonesia which have traditionally been off-limits for journalists in the region. They have done so by completing field work together and pairing traditional journalistic skills with legal expertise to produce their content. Hukum is thus based on a niche journalism model and a non-traditional reporting model.
