This class is designed to help you raise your research abilities to advanced levels, and is designed to prep you for investigative reporting classes. You’ll further develop skills in critical thinking, finding the records, data, and people to tell your story, and brainstorming and exploring where research may take you. We’ll deconstruct some complex, impactful investigative stories and break down the research components. You will also meet some of the best investigative researchers in the business, who’ll share their investigative research specialties. You’ll also have some time to workshop some of your investigative ideas and stories. You should be using every assignment in this five-week module to research your other class assignments. Students will be required to come to class having absorbed preparatory materials including videos, podcasts and readings. Preparation will be key to helping you complete in-class drills covering advanced search strategies and get you started on assignments.
