The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism is proud to announce that two alums have won Pulitzer Prizes this year: Angela Hill and Rachael Levy.

Hill, an alumna of the Class of 2007, who is a senior video producer at The Washington Post, was part of the team that won a Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for its incredible series titled “American Icon.” The award-winning package chronicled the gruesome realities of the AR-15, a weapon that has left a violent mark on the U.S. The stories were also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.

“It was an incredible experience to have worked on the AR-15 series of stories as part of a talented, hardworking and creative team who were careful to consider the many nuances of the subject matter,” Hill said. “We set out to produce a story that informed, challenged and offered unique perspectives while also being sensitive to victims and their families. I am grateful and humbled that our team received such a prestigious honor.”

Levy, a 2014 graduate, is a business reporter with Reuters, where she and a team of journalists also won a Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting. Their deep coverage of Elon Musk and his various businesses—including SpaceX, Tesla and Neuralink—uncovered harmful practices in Europe and the U.S.

“I’m honored to have won a Pulitzer with my team at Reuters,” Levy said. “In the last few days, I’ve been reflecting on how far I’ve come since J-School a decade ago. CUNY taught me many of the core skills that I used in my reporting. And for that, I am forever grateful.”

At Newmark J-School, graduates leave with the tools they need to do the type of reporting that not only wins awards, but also holds the powerful accountable and offers the vulnerable a voice. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners.
