Social media. Video storytelling. Multimedia editing. New tools and technologies are rapidly changing the way we practice journalism. For veteran media pros, keeping up can be challenging. To address the growing demand for professional development amid industry innovation, the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism has launched a new training initiative: CUNY J-Camp.
CUNY J-Camp offers smart, efficient training for media professionals through affordable, cutting-edge workshops led by top industry practitioners and expert instructors. Launching in beta mode this summer and expanding in the fall, CUNY J-Camp features skill-based seminars, each designed with specific takeaways. Subjects range from digital photography and video editing to social media strategies and personal branding online.
The innovative professional development initiative kicked off in June with “Mastering Twitter” and “How to Launch You.com,” a seminar offering tips, tricks, and tools for enhancing a personal or professional presence online. Other workshops will include: Video Storytelling Bootcamp, Mastering Digital Photography, and WordPress Web Development.
The carefully-crafted curricula target journalism professionals and members of the public in related fields who want to advance their media skills and strategic capabilities. Sessions are hands-on, interactive, and focused on specific, measurable skill sets. Early participants have included authors, reporters, editors, business strategists, and senior executives.
The new CUNY J-Camp initiative enables the Graduate School of Journalism to capitalize on its high-tech classrooms and gives its industry-leading instructors an opportunity to share best practices with media professionals transitioning toward journalism’s increasingly digital landscape. Registration for all sessions is available at CUNYJCamp.com.
