The News Service was humming this week:
- Brian Winkowski and Rima Abdelkader put together a video story about liquor store owners’ opposition to a state plan to sell wine in groceries and supermarkets.
- Maya Pope-Chappell, Tracy Chimming and H’Rina DeTroy teamed on a video story that looked at how less-than-expected federal transit aid will impact subway projects.
- Alex Green IV, Rachel Geizhals and Nicole Turso combined efforts on a sobering sign-of-the-times video piece about a women’s job fair that welcomed men for the first time.
- Amber Benham wrote about plans for a Brooklyn dual-language English-Hebrew charter school whose principal doesn’t speak Hebrew.
- Karina Ioffee’s article about student volunteers offering tax preparation help made the Daily News.
- Maria Clark, writing for the Daily News, reported allegations that the NYPD is withholding evidence in the shootings of two men by police.
- Sergey Kadinsky shared a byline on this News story about anger over the closing of two Queens hospitals.
- Ben Fractenberg covered a van crash that brought down sidewalk scaffolding in Harlem
Very exciting news from our alumni corner:
Damian Ghigliotty (’08) and Joe Hirsch (’07) were cited in the Congressional Record by Rep. Anthony Weiner for their contributions to The Queens Courier’s 2007 “Ghost Workers” series that chronicled the lives of immigrant day laborers.
