There is no more exciting place in the U.S. to offer a graduate program in international reporting than New York, one of the world’s truly international cities.

Home to the United Nations, diplomats from most of the world's countries, journalism and foreign policy think tanks, foreign policy experts, international aid organizations, and the largest foreign news operations in the country, New York presents countless opportunities for reporting that will hone skills needed to report overseas.

It is also home to an amazingly diverse recent immigrant population, including Burmese in Ozone Park, West Africans in Harlem, Mexicans in Jackson Heights, and Chinese and Koreans in Flushing.

As American journalism struggles to find a less costly, more convergence savvy means of covering the world, we will seek to be in the forefront of that effort.

Students will develop sources and story ideas from all of these rich veins of information. Students will also learn logistics, research, and planning for foreign assignments and will delve into the craft of reporting across cultural lines.

Instructors and guests will bring fresh experiences of frontline international journalism.

A summer internship in a foreign land, at the UN, or in Washington covering foreign policy is required.
