Ivy Leaguer Chooses CUNY To Gain Reporting Expertise

Three out of four children in Daniel Massey’s family went to Ivy League schools as undergraduates. All of them have ended up completing graduate degrees at CUNY. “It’s meaningful for me to be going to CUNY,” said Massey, who graduated from Brown University. “The University is part of the fabric of this city.” Massey, a Bronx native, has a knack for putting people at ease, a necessary trait for successful journalists. The skill came in handy when he approached 9/11 detainees and their families for “Persons of Interest,” a documentary he produced and released in 2003. “Everybody’s got a story and you just have to make them feel comfortable,” he said. The film has been shown in mosques and to human rights groups and community organizations. While at the School of Journalism, Massey hopes to develop similar stories and figure out what type of journalist he wants to be.
