•The latest issue of the Mott Haven Herald features stories by J-Schoolers past and present, including: Carla Candia, Juan DeJesus, Jeanmarie Evelly, Alex Green IV, Joe Hirsch, Sergey Kadinsky, Emily Lavin, Nick Loomis, Erin McCarthy, Vishal Persaud, and Hannah Rappleye. •Michael Cohen’s story about a Golden Gloves boxer with a side gig in modeling was featured on Urban Latino’s website.
•Dale Eisinger suggests catching a rising band, Keepaway, in a piece for The Deli.
•Check out Margaret Teich’s story and audio slideshow about disappearing native plants. The package can be found on WNYC’s site.
•David Montalvo takes issue with a recent Gallup report on environmentally friendly behavior in an opinion piece for The Daily Green.
•Dana Rapoport’s video story about an art therapy program that helps Latina teens made the News Service. Jonathan Balthaser’s video piece about a construction safety scam packaged nicely with a story he previously published in the Daily News.
•Speaking of the Daily News, Liza Eckert’s feature about “Lost” found a home in the Queens section (see attached PDF). Bobby Melok wrote about a Giant spelling problem. Joe Tacopino relays the news that Robert Pattinson won’t be playing Kurt Cobain. Dan Tucker braved the skirl of bagpipes to cover the annual Tartan Day Parade.
•The Green Team is pumping out the posts for The Local. The crew got an assist this week from Alex Abad-Santos and Shane Dixon Kavanaugh, who combined on a follow-up story on an arrest in pair of rapes.
•Krissy Dolor wrote about school overcrowding for NBC Local Integrated Media. Katie Honan, meanwhile, penned the bittersweet story of what could be the last baby born at St. Vincent’s.
•In our alumni corner, Marcella Veneziale converted a Narrative class story into a clip: Her piece about Poets House made Library Journal. Rima Abdelkader’s story about a possible lifting of restrictions placed on women lawyers in Saudi Arabia found a home in Women’s eNews. Lakshmi Gandhi’s sharp eye while watching Ellen DeGeneres interviewing comedian Aziz Ansari led to a catch that led to a post on Gawker.TV
