Our News Service has been particularly busy:
•Members of Prof. Mifflin’s class teamed to look at some of the winners of a YouTube-Guggenheim digital art contest. Lauryn Barnett, Megan Finnegan, Jessica Dailey, Krissy Dolor, Vineeth Thomas and Jordan Shakeshaft contributed to the coverage.
•Speaking of art, Jennifer Hamblett profiled an art-world chronicler whose videos have become a YouTube hit.
•Our team coverage of the College Music Journalism festival yielded 10 posts, thanks to Paul DeBenedetto, Felipe Cabrera, Liza Eckert, Lily Rothman and Bianca Seidman-Shvartz, who proposed the project. Special thanks to Daniel Bachhuber and Joe Filippazzo for helping pull everything together.
•Uche Abanobi produced an audio slideshow profile of a Bronx food pantry.
•We also did great on the video front: Melissa Cooper tapped into Lower East Side culinary history with her coverage of International Pickle Day. Janet Lawrence and Walter Smith-Randolph reported on a children’s film festival that focused on diversity. David Montalvo and Jessica Courtemanche looked at the new voting machines. Christopher Schuetze and Samantha Stark offered a preview of a biking event that pairs sighted and visually impaired cyclists on tandem two-wheelers.
•Kerri MacDonald also covered the tandem bike event – as a rider. You’ll find her account in The New York Times’ City Room blog.
•Speaking of The Times, the latest from The Local includes posts by, among others: Alex Abad-Santos, Jose Bayona, Spencer Freeman, Celia Gorman, Channon Hodge, Emily Lavin, Judy Le and Bobby Melok.
•Patrick Clark’s story about the uncertain fate of the flea market at Aqueduct Raceway made Crain’s New York Business. Katie Honan wrote a piece about plans for a much-needed supermarket in the Rockaways. David Montalvo contributed three videos about life on 116th Street.
•Ian Chant pulled together a Halloween parade story and photo gallery for The Hunts Point Express.
•Speaking of Halloween (and the Bronx) Ashley Welch offered a story about a Halloween store-window-painting contest and a photo gallery to The Riverdale Press.
•Check out the latest from Mitch Trinka’s Past Meets Present photo project at Brooklyn Based.
•Carmel Delshad wrote about a new charter school that aims to cultivate the next generation of doctors. You’ll find her story in the Mott Haven Herald.
•Patrick Wall wrote a piece for the Brooklyn Eagle about a Tea Party candidate in Crown Heights.
•Matt Draper covered a protest by business owners hit hard by Second Avenue Subway construction. His story made DNAInfo.com.
•Vishal Persaud wrote a post for CBSNews.com about Democratic Mississippi Rep. Gene Taylor’s revelation that he voted for John McCain in 2008.
•Kevin Sheehan shared the byline on this New York Post story about a double murder outside a Queens cemetery. Annais Morales shared the byline on an article about increased security at local synagogues.

•Mariana (Vasconcellos) Keller contributed a video to Time about protests over pension changes in France.
•The secret to great New York pizza and bagels is in the water – and Maya Pope-Chappell has additional proof. She wrote a piece for The Wall Street Journal about Florida pizza and bagel businesses with competing systems that turn tap into a facsimile of NYC water.
•Mary Stachyra is running the new Patch site in Centreville, VA. Check out her intro video.
