The CUNY Graduate School of Journalism’s Class of 2010 alumni have wasted no time in launching their careers. More than one-third of the 52 graduates who were awarded master’s degrees on December 15 are already making their living as full- or part-time journalists.
This record tops each of the previous three classes, an indication that the employment market for journalists may finally be turning around. Even in the difficult environment of the past few years, 75% of alums from 2007, 2008, and 2009 were working in the news business within six months of graduating.
Recent graduates are working everywhere from The New York Times to The Moscow Times, from radio station WNYC in the Big Apple to television station WENY in Elmira, N.Y. CUNY 2010 alumni are also covering business at Bloomberg, the Dow Jones Newswires, and SmartMoney.com. Several have jobs at NBC and ABC.
