  • McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism awards up to $15,000 for in-depth investigative and enterprise stories on business or economic topics

Do you – or a reporter you know – have a great idea for an in-depth story on a business or economic subject, but few resources to get it done?

Winter applications are now open for the McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism, a recently launched initiative of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. The McGraw Fellowships enable accomplished journalists to do the deep reporting to produce a distinguished investigative or enterprise business story.

Each McGraw Fellow receives $5,000 a month for up to three months. Fellowships are awarded twice a year. The next deadline for proposals is November 15, 2015.

The Fellowships are open to all journalists, both freelancers and staff, with at least five years professional experience. No residency is required; McGraw Fellows work from their own offices. Applicants must submit a well-developed story idea, three work samples and two letters of reference. For further information and the online application, go to www.mcgrawcenter.org.

The Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Center for Business Journalism, which opened in January at the CUNY J-School, awards the Fellowships. The McGraw Center is dedicated to enhancing the quality and depth of business news coverage through training, scholarships and support for veteran journalists.

The Summer 2015 McGraw Fellows are:

William Adler, a Denver-based freelance reporter, is examining the economic, environmental and social ramifications of Nicaragua’s plans to build a 178-mile shipping canal from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

Maria Perez, a staff reporter for the Naples Daily News, produced a multimedia series on Cuba’s evolving economy and the challenges and opportunities it faces.

Robert Lenzner, a veteran financial reporter, is exploring the growing threat of cyber attacks to the international financial system.
