Original tape date: March 26, 2017.

First aired: March 26, 2017.

On this month’s Study With the Best, we explore the press under duress. With legitimate journalism in the crosshairs of even the current President of the United States, how is CUNY responding? We’ll see how the Graduate School of Journalism is using President Trump’s claim that ‘fake news is the enemy of the American people’ as a call to arms; look deeply into news algorithms with Queens College professor Douglas Rushkoff, who tells us how these tools can lead us into a self-perpetuating view of the world; take a look back in American history at other moments when the press came under attack with Lehman College’s Andrew Robertson; and hear Jeff Jarvis describe the problems with fake news and social media, and what can be done to realign journalism.
