Carrie Brown, director of the Social Journalism program, and Jeremy Caplan, director of education for the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism, made MediaShift’s inaugural EducationShift20 list of journalism innovators and educators this month.

“As the leader of a J-school startup, Carrie is constantly pushing for other J-schools to change curriculum, and she also is a strong voice in the efforts for more diversity in faculty and newsrooms,” Dale Blasingame of Texas State University told EducationShift editor Amanda C. Bright.

Betty Tsakarestou, assistant professor and head of advertising at Panteion University in Athens, Greece, said Jeremy Caplan’s passion as an educator and mentor helped inspire her and others to take the lead in innovation this year.

MediaShift also recognized two alums from the Social Journalism program. Simon Galperin, ’16, made the list of top digital media innovators.  Galperin is the director of Community Information Cooperative (CiC), an organization developing community information districts.  Kristine Villanueva, ’17, was named on the MetricShift20 list for her work examining engagement metrics for a project on underground music in New York City.
