Micah Danney, ’17, and Claire Molloy, ’17, received Overseas Press Club Foundation Scholar Awards at the 2018 Annual Scholar Awards Luncheon held at the Yale Club in New York City.
They were among 16 aspiring foreign correspondents selected by a panel of leading journalists from a pool of 175 applicants from 50 colleges and universities.
Danney, a multimedia journalist whose main focus is the Middle East, was the recipient of the Theo Wilson Scholarship. He spent last summer at The Times of Israel and has an OPC Foundation fellowship with the GroundTruth Project in Jerusalem.
Molloy won the N.S. Beinstock Scholarship. Her focus is covering Southeast Asia, where she interned last summer in Jakarta for VICE Indonesia. While there, she met Bahadori, the subject of her essay and one of 14,000 Afghan refugees waiting for resettlement somewhere else in the world.
The OPC Foundation is the nation’s largest scholarship program encouraging aspiring journalists to pursue careers as international correspondents. Media organizations at the luncheon included the Associated Press, Bloomberg News, CBS News, GroundTruth Project, Reuters and The Wall Street Journal.
