The CUNY Graduate School of Journalism Foundation, the nonprofit body that supports CUNY’s graduate journalism school, is pleased to announce that New York Times Chairman Arthur Sulzberger, Jr. is joining its board. Mr. Sulzberger served as the publisher of The New York Times for 25 years, during which time he oversaw the paper’s transformation into a digital powerhouse.
“We are thrilled that Arthur has chosen to devote his valuable time and energy to helping us build our school,” said Dean Sarah Bartlett. Sulzberger’s addition to the board is the culmination of many years of active involvement at the CUNY J-School. At its inception in 2006, he and his family endowed a major scholarship fund for students, and The Times later made the school the home of its Student Journalism Institute. A year ago, Sulzberger received the school’s Excellence in Journalism Award at its annual fundraising dinner.
“I am very excited to be joining the board of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. I have felt strongly about the school and its mission since my dear friend Steve Shepard became its founding dean,” said Sulzberger. “This is a critical time for precisely the kind of quality journalism the school is dedicated to teaching its talented students.”
