The Society of Silurians selected Samantha Maldonado, ’18, as the winner of the Dennis Duggan prize, given annually to a student at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism who excels at covering ordinary New Yorkers.
“I’m grateful to the Society of Silurians for this award and I appreciate the support I’ve received from my professors and classmates, who made my reporting possible. I’m hoping to continue learning about the city through reporting on its everyday people and what matters to them,” Maldonado said.
The prize, which will be presented at the Silurians’ annual dinner on May 16, 2018, comes with a $1,000 honorarium.
