The Center for Community and Ethnic Media at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY is seeking a general manager. Under the supervision of CCEM’s executive director, the general manager will be responsible for assisting the executive director in all aspects of the administration of the center and the Latino News Initiative, including the Spanish-language journalism program.
The general manager will oversee the day-to-day operation of the center, write grant proposals and reports, help manage budgets, serve as liaison between the several initiatives that will live within the center, and help coordinate activities between the center and its regional partners.
Duties include but are not limited to:
-Oversee the day-to-day operation of CCEM, working collaboratively with a small team of people, making sure that all projects are running smoothly, keeping deadlines in mind and making sure they are met.
-Assist the executive director with special projects
-Write grant proposals and reports for an array of different projects that need funding, including research, convenings, special initiatives, leadership and training projects, etc.
-Help to recruit students for the Spanish-language program. This may require travel.
-Help with the organization and logistics of convenings, including the Latino Media Summit
-Coordinate activities between the center and its regional partners in key locations across the country
–Knowledge and connections with community and immigrant media outlets and experience working with the journalism industry and media institutions
-Well organized with an affinity for project management and numbers, extremely efficient, self-driven, and enthusiastic
-Experience soliciting and managing major grants
-Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with others for the good of the institution
-Spanish-language verbal and written skills a plus
COMPENSATION: As a grant-funded position, the general manager will be on the payroll (and have the benefits package) of the CUNY Research Foundation. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
