Cristina Maldonado is a freelance research editor and educator.
She teaches news research methods for Craft of Reporting I and II. She has also trained and coached journalists on research and fact checking methods at news media outlets like WNYC and ProPublica.
Previously, she was director of fact checking for the nonprofit news documentary group Retro Report, and before that she worked as a freelance researcher, radio, and TV producer and writer for national and local media outlets.
She began her career in broadcast television news, working as an associate producer for ABC News, Good Morning America. Later, she was a writer and producer for NY1’s Spanish sister station NY1 Noticias and a freelance stringer for The New York Times metro desk.
She holds degrees from Columbia University and Penn State University.
