1. SHINING A LIGHT ON CORRUPTION

Six of our grads just picked up the national “best student investigation” award from the Investigative Reporters and Editors for their stories about tainted food in NYC public schools.

Watch this short video, featuring investigative reporter Angela Hill (above), about how we teach students to look for stories not being covered anywhere else.

2. TWEETS, LIES AND VIDEOTAPE

We recently launched a series of free online classes — kicking off with Pulitzer Prize winner David Fahrenthold of The Washington Post, who describes everything from reporting techniques to the thrill of being lied to. We’re back in our studio now recording NY1’s Errol Louis.

3. MAPPING LATINO MEDIA

At our third annual Latino Media Summit, Tow Professor Graciela Mochkofsky unveiled original research about the state of the Latino media in the U.S.

4. TRAINING NEWS LEADERS

We are launching a one-year Executive program in January for newsroom leaders to learn to navigate the intersections of product, editorial, business, and technology.
Check it out!

5. BY OUR STUDENTS AND ALUMS

  • Jazmin Goodwin ’19, produced a video for CNN about a puncture-proof tire being developed by Michelin and General Motors.
  • Former prisoners opened up to Joseph Darius Jaafari ’16, for his story in The Marshall Project about the risky art of prison tattoos.
  • Beatrix Lockwood ’19, created a guide to help New Yorkers understand what’s at stake in the upcoming race for Queens District Attorney.

PLUS! A student takeover

Every so often a class takes over our Instagram feed. Watch this insider’s guide to life at Newmark J-School.
