R. Kaya Laterman is a freelance reporter and editor. She is currently an assistant editor at Gothamist, and was the former managing editor at BK Reader. She is also a regular contributor to the Metropolitan and Real Estate sections of The New York Times. Prior work includes writing for the New York section of The Wall Street Journal.
She was also a financial news wire reporter for various media outlets, including stints as a foreign correspondent in Tokyo for Bridge News (formerly known as Knight Ridder Financial) and TheStreet.com. She is fluent in Japanese.
