The McGraw-Hill Companies has donated $75,000 to the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism to establish a scholarship fund in memory of Donald S. Rubin, an executive who passed away Feb. 20 after a 52-year career at the company.
Besides its initial gift, McGraw-Hill has pledged to match any additional contributions to the fund by its employees. Dean Stephen B. Shepard said he expects the total endowment eventually to exceed $100,000, which would yield an annual scholarship of about $5,000.
Rubin began his career as a sports writer, reporter, and magazine editor before serving in executive positions at McGraw-Hill. He was senior vice president of investor relations at the time of his death.
