In the practicum, students bring together everything they’ve learned across the program by developing and executing an ambitious, self-directed engagement-driven project with dedicated faculty support. Whether building on work from previous courses — such as investigative projects, documentary work, or specialized beats like health and science — or pursuing a new vision entirely, students manage their project from concept through completion, iterating based on audience feedback along the way. Throughout the semester, students apply project management planning, audience engagement strategy, outreach and distribution tactics to bring their work to life — putting into practice the engagement principles that form the foundation of the program. Students graduate with a portfolio-ready project, practical experience managing complex work, and the strategic skills to design and ship audience-centered journalism products in any professional setting.
