The Department of Photojournalism invites you to a conversation with Ronaldo Schemidt, Venezuelan photojournalist who won the 2018 World Press Photo of the year award and spot news – singles category award.
Join virtually to learn about his reporting in Latin America and about the photo that earned him the World Press photo award. The conversation will be moderated by John Smock.
Ronaldo Schemidt is an independent photojournalist for AFP. He has covered important social, political and sport events (such as 2014 World Cup in Rio do Janeiro, Hugo Chavez’s death in 2013, Nicolás Maduro election in Venezuela, and the protests between supporters and oppositions, Fidel Castro’s death and natural disasters in México). In 2019 was named as AFP correspondent of the southern hemisphere. In 2018 won the World Press Photo of the Year Award for his photo of José Víctor Salazar Balza engulfed in flames during a protest
