Please join us for a screening of the CBS Sports documentary CROWN, produced by Newmark J-School alumni Kizzy Cox ’12 and Sarah Kazadi ’12. The film is nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Edited Special. Emmy winners will be announced in late May.
“CROWN” explores America’s complicated relationship with Black hair, through a sports lens – featuring trendsetting athletes from the Civil Rights era to present-day, whose hair styles changed the game. This Emmy-nominated documentary is an expression of Black joy, celebrating players who have helped different generations of Black Americans live authentically by embracing their hair, in all of its natural glory. This is an ode to the Style Gods, the mold-breakers, the fully free.
The 45-minute film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring:
Aziza Shuler, Emmy Award-winning Weekend Anchor and Reporter for CBS News Philadelphia who decided to appear on air with her natural bald head
Sarah Kazadi ’12, senior producer and director of CROWN
Kizzy Cox ’12, who worked on CROWN as producer
