August Academy for Class of 2019 Applicants

This special series of enrichment classes is open to any prospective student who has commenced the application process for the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism’s Class of 2019. There is no cost to applicants for taking part in the August Academy. Candidates may select up to three courses.

To Attend August Academy
➢ Send a copy of your current resume and a personal statement of up to 1,000 words detailing your interest in journalism, the reasons why you have decided to attend August Academy, why you are interested in applying to the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, and the elements of your background you feel will enable you to succeed in the program and the profession to Office of Admissions: admissions@journalism.cuny.edu

➢  Once the Office of Admissions receives these documents, they will send you the registration link.

➢  These documents are due to the Office of Admissions by July 31, 2017.

This year’s August Academy is scheduled for Aug. 7, 8, and 9.

Monday, Aug. 7

10 a.m.-12 p.m.: Covering the NYC Elections, with Juan Manuel Benitez of NY 1, Room 434

2-4 p.m.: Covering the NYC Elections en Español (for bilingual applicants), with Juan Manuel Benitez of NY 1, Room 434

2-4 p.m..: Here Comes Virtual Reality, with Matt McVey – Room 442

4-5:30 p.m.: Meet and greet with faculty and staff – Cafe area

Tuesday, Aug. 8

9 a.m.-2 p.m.: News Photography with Smart Phones, with Jennifer Altman, photojournalist and photojournalism instructor – Room 330

12-4 p.m.: Freelancing Workshop, with Craft Professor Tim Harper – Room 308

Wednesday, Aug. 9

10 a.m.-1 p.m.: So You Want to Work in Video, with Susan Farkas, Room 440
