A Master Class with Mikhail Zygar
Co-sponsored by the Journalism Protection Initiative and the International Reporting Concentration

Russian journalist Mikhail Zygar began his career as a war correspondent, later founded the independent new outlet TV Rain to challenge the Kremlin narrative, and today is a bestselling author chronicling President Vladmir Putin’s imperial regime. Through it all, he has witnessed Russia’s transition from a flawed democracy to an authoritarian state. In a four-part Master Class, featuring some of the top journalists covering Russia today, Mikhail will share his experience with the Newmark J-School community.

The Master Class is limited to 25 participants and is open to Newmark J-School students and outside guests. Zygar is the Newmark J-School’s inaugural Press Freedom Fellow.

On March 27, Zygar will be in conversation with Mike Schwirtz, a longtime correspondent of The New York Times, and two time Pulitzer-Prize winner. They’ll explore methods of investigative reporting in a conflict zone. Distinguished Professor Masha Gessen (Newmark J-School) will attend and participate in the discussion.
