Once a niche phenomenon, prediction markets were first embraced by political junkies who wanted to bet on presidential elections. Now, prediction markets are everywhere, an unavoidable presence in politics, sports, culture, and journalism.
On Tuesday, Sept. 22, the Newmark J-School will delve into the issue by examining what prediction markets are, how they have become entangled in illegal activity like insider trading and legal but problematic practices in which savvy traders take advantage of average users, and why journalism outlets are inking deals with the platforms.
The event will feature:
- Robert J. DeNault, Head of Enforcement and Legal Counsel, Kalshi
- David Yaffe-Bellany, The New York Times
- Caitlin Ostroff, The Wall Street Journal
- Moderator: Greg David, Director of the Business and Economics Reporting Program
Tickets are required for this event. To secure a ticket below, registrants must provide their full first and last name(s), including for any guests. Incomplete or partial information will result in the cancellation of the ticket reservation.
