The Social Journalism Program at the Newmark Graduate School of Journalism welcomes you to hear what our students learned about community-level engagement over the course of their one-and-a-half year MA program.
Listening posts, open newsrooms, crowdsourced engagement projects, bots, design thinking, data visualization, analytics…you name it, chances are they’ve experimented with it as we look at better ways to understand and engage audiences.
If you can’t make it to New York, you can catch the livestream. Video will be uploaded to YouTube following the event. Follow along on Twitter with the hashtag #SocialJ.
Each student chooses a community to work with throughout the course of the program. You’ll hear about all of the diverse strategies they’ve used in working with a range of communities, from the community impacted by opioid-use disorders, accessibility for New Yorkers in need, to serving boys and young men of color as they begin to understand their role in society.
Each student will have nine minutes — time limit strictly enforced! — to describe what they’ve done and learned throughout the program. We’ll have a reception to follow where you can meet the students, who will graduate on December 13.
