Allison Lichter joined the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs on April 3, 2023. Allison works alongside Dean Graciela Mochkofsky, marking the first time the J-School has two women at the helm.

Allison was previously the Department Chair of Journalism + Design at the Eugene Lang College at The New School. There, she developed a curriculum in reporting, writing, product design, audio, data and visual journalism. She has extensive experience in conflict management and discussion facilitation and a strong focus on design and systems thinking, strategic planning and solutions journalism.

Prior to The New School, she worked for The Wall Street Journal as deputy director of emerging media, focusing on audience development and social media strategy, and as corporate editor for life and culture. Before that, she worked for New York Public Radio, where, as culture editor, she managed a team of 12 critics and reporters and produced a daily show about music and culture in New York City.

Allison has a B.A. in History from Carleton College, where she graduated magna cum laude, and an M.A. in History from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
