Julianne Welby is senior editor of news at WNYC. She focuses on the station’s immigration coverage, as well as breaking news protocols and training.
Since 2000, Julianne has been teaching audio journalism to college and graduate students in New York City as an adjunct professor at Columbia and Fordham Universities, and as News Director at WFUV in the Bronx (2000-2008) — a nationally-recognized training ground for broadcast journalists. She also conducts journalism workshops at NPR member stations and media conferences.
Julianne’s career in public media took root as a student at WFUV, where she first learned newswriting, newscasting, audio production and feature reporting. Her work has been carried by NPR and other networks, and it has been honored by Public Radio News Directors, Inc., the Society of Professional Journalists, the Radio Television Digital News Association, and the Associated Press, among others.
