Julianne Welby

Julianne Welby is a multimedia journalist who has worked in public and nonprofit media since 1990 as a reporter, producer, host, editor, and news manager. Most recently as Senior Editor in WNYC’s newsroom, she managed many beats and reporting teams, including on politics, immigration, policing, race, health, legal affairs, education, transportation, the economy, and pandemic recovery. Julianne has also supervised numerous enterprise and data-driven projects, including reports that mapped swastika sightings, tracked hospital deaths, shared school vaccination rates, and explored backlogs in immigration court. She has led training efforts at WNYC and for many other journalists across the nation, with special focuses on breaking news protocols, multimedia reporting, audience engagement, and authentic vocal delivery.

Julianne’s career took root in college at Fordham University’s public radio station WFUV, where she later returned as News Director and co-host of the morning show. She has taught journalism courses since 2004 at Fordham, Columbia and CUNY.
