Shirley Zilberstein is senior director of News Standards at NBC News, where she guides colleagues on journalism ethics and best practices. She has worked in TV journalism for over 25 years.
Shirley was director of NBC’s politics desk during the 2020 campaign, overseeing technical and editorial teams in the field. She previously was executive producer at MSNBC and launched two new weekend shows during that time.
Prior to joining NBC, Shirley was a field producer at CNN covering politics and a variety of breaking news, from plane crashes to natural disasters. She spent part of 2008 as a campaign embed traveling the country with several presidential candidates.
Her work covering elections and politics earned her an Emmy and a Peabody, and her work broadening coverage of underrepresented communities earned her two GLAAD awards.
Shirley received a B.A. in Communication and Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
