The program targets newsrooms with existing video operations who want to learn and apply strategies for monetizing video projects; applications are open until August 18, 2021.
Applications for the second cohort of the Video Business Accelerator open today for newsrooms in Latin America who seek to learn and experiment with sustainable business strategies around video.
The Video Business Accelerator is a tuition-free, cohort-based and expert-led online training program to empower news organizations to design and implement strategies, build working prototypes, and launch revenue-generating video projects. It includes classes, as well as project coaching and a $12,000 grant award for the participants. The program is offered by the Facebook Journalism Project in collaboration with the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY and the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ).
“We are excited to announce the Latin American edition of the Video Business Accelerator in partnership with CUNY and ICFJ, a program designed for publishers who have existing video units and are ready to refine strategies around video to grow revenue sustainably,” says Julieta Shama, Head of News Partnerships, Spanish Speaking Latam, at Facebook.
The first cohort, composed of 12 newsrooms from Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Thailand is ongoing. The second cohort, in Latin America, will follow the same six-month training program, starting the week of September 27.
- Applications must be submitted by a team leader who will champion the project in the newsroom.
- Teams should be composed of two or three people from the newsroom, including 1) a person with responsibility for generating revenue, 2) a person with responsibility for developing or creating video journalism, and 3) a person with responsibility for thinking about video as a product or another related function such as marketing, analytics or audience engagement. (One of these people should be the team leader).
- Each application must have the support of an executive sponsor, who will commit to attending two of the training sessions.
