This panel will spotlight high-profile cases, including Rümeysa Öztürk and Mario Guevara, and examine how U.S. law is shaping press freedom. This event is part of the Fall 2025 Safety Series, a three-part program from the Newmark J-School’s Journalism Protection Initiative exploring the biggest threats to media safety and press freedom in the U.S.

AI search tools like Perplexity are gaining popularity in newsrooms for their ability to search information across different topics and complexity levels. In this session for Newmark J-School students, alumni, faculty, and staff, you’ll learn about how to use Perplexity for citation-based searching. You’ll also learn some caveats and have a chance to practice searching related to your own interests.
