New York’s economy has suffered through depressions and recessions before and rebounded. But with unemployment high, hunger soaring, small businesses failing daily, and the health care system under extraordinary pressures, we know this time will be different. And this time will call for new solutions.
A conversation about solutions will be opened with a brief overview of this and past crises by Greg David, director of the Business and Economics Reporting program at the Newmark J-School and a contributor for TheCity covering fiscal and economic issues. Then NY1’s Errol Louis, who teaches in the Urban Reporting program, will convene a panel of experts from different perspectives.
Natasha Amott, small business owner (Whisk) and activist
Lisa David, President and CEO of Public Health Solutions, a health service organization that supports vulnerable New York City families
Eric Gural, Co-CEO and Principal of GFP, a commercial real estate property management and development firm
Eileen Torres, Executive Director of BronxWorks, a human service organization and settlement house
This is the first part of a two-part series. The next session will take place on the evening of March 3rd.
