Associate Professor of Video Storytelling
Augmented reality and virtual reality are some of the most exciting new visual journalism tools, from $100 360-video cameras to high-end volumetric video capture and new augmented reality headsets.
At the Emerging Tech Lab at the Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, we help journalists and non-fiction storytellers apply these tools to their work. We also look at the future audiences and business models for these new communication platforms.
We’re focused on making sure that all journalists, including those from small news organizations such as members of the Center for Community and Ethnic Media, have access to learn about and work with these tools.

Learn how to get started with 360-video production here. This guide covers the basics of 360 video, 360-video production dos and don’ts and what gear you need for a simple 360-video kit.
See some of the 360-video work created by Newmark J-School students with community news organizations. Our students worked with journalists at 11 news organizations that are part of the Center for Community and Ethnic Media to create stories that captures the virtual reality of life for various New Yorkers – from disabled climbers scaling new heights to a community creating an oasis in the sky to performers strutting their stuff at a drag show.
