Career Services
Skyler Reid
Staffed by experienced journalists and career coaches, our office is dedicated to helping students, recent alumni, and employers navigate an increasingly competitive media industry.
Students and recent alumni turn to us to learn about career opportunities and to plan and develop their individual career goals. We counsel and connect students to help find meaningful jobs and internships in New York, the U.S., and around the globe.
We also are a resource for employers. Media executives say our graduates set themselves apart not only through their superb training and skill sets but through their diversity and sheer grit. We are here to help you find the best journalists for your organization.
What we offer our students
Summer Internship
Our students graduate with on-the-job experience thanks to our required summer internship. The school forms exclusive partnerships with media organizations and works to guarantee compensation for every student.
Career coaching
We work with you one-on-one to develop a personalized career strategy based on your individual interests, experience and goals. Our career coaches help with resumes, cover letters, online portfolios and interview preparation while serving as a resource to help find a summer internship and, later, a job. We also provide coaching in groups via career educational workshops, job search groups, and career chats with student clubs and other cohorts. Request an appointment with a career coach via Handshake.
Career Development Programs
Students are regularly introduced to working journalists from leading media organizations through information sessions, workshops, practice interview sessions, and virtual and on-campus recruiting. Students, register here for upcoming events via Handhake.
Career FAIRS
Trained to listen to diverse voices, build relationships with underrepresented communities, and cover their stories with cultural sensitivity, our students and alumni are uniquely qualified to help steer the future of American newsrooms. Our annual Networking & Career Fair is our premier recruiting event, where you can connect with media organizations for internships, fellowships, jobs and freelance opportunities.
CAREER RESOURCES
Career Services has developed and compiled a range of resources for students, including guidance on resumes, cover letters, interviewing, networking, job search, and negotiation. Students, check out the Handshake Resources Library for information on various career matters.
