Campus Security and Public Safety

The mission of the Newmark Graduate School of Journalism’s Department of Public Safety is to provide a safe and secure environment for our campus community with an emphasis on civility and inclusion.

We do this by taking a community approach to campus safety by developing partnerships with the students, faculty, and staff of this diverse institution. The public safety team will strive to protect, serve, and work within the organizational culture which fosters trust, mutual respect, and cooperation in the community we serve.

Campus Public Safety: 646-758-7777

The Department of Public Safety is staffed by trained campus peace officers and campus security assistants who are available to assist the campus community at all times during operational hours. Both campus peace officers and campus security assistants are fully qualified to respond to emergencies.

Our officers take a proactive approach to safety and security by performing both foot patrols and monitoring the college’s closed-circuit security cameras for situations or activities that may pose a danger to persons or property.

If warranted, campus public safety will contact local emergency services for police/fire/EMS response. All public safety officers have received training and certification in first aid, CPR, use of automated external defibrillators (AED), and campus safety procedures.

How to Report an Emergency

Call 911 to report emergencies that require the immediate response of the NYPD, FDNY, or Emergency Medical Services (EMS). If calling 911 from a campus phone, dial 8 followed by 911.

Call 87777 from any campus phone to reach the public safety desk during regular business hours and to expedite emergency responses.
