What better place to learn about urban reporting than New York City?
The city’s richly diverse population, its sophisticated (some would say Byzantine) political system, and its powerhouse economy offer endless potential for stories.
We are fortunate to be able to draw on an unparalleled network of instructors, including some of the city’s top reporters, to assist in that pursuit.
The stories our urban students generate feed right into the school’s distribution outlets, such as the NYCity News Service; AudioFiles and and 219West, the news magazine that airs on CUNY TV, Channel 75.
Students from this concentration have landed some impressive internships and full-time jobs, at major media organizations such as public radio stations WNYC and WHYY (Philadelphia), The New York Times, The Washington Post, Associated Press, NY1, MSNBC, CNN, Politico, The Daily Beast, The Texas Tribune and THE CITY, among many others.
