Nonprofit News Business Certificate

Put your nonprofit local news organization on the path to sustainability! This rigorous 9-month hybrid, project-based business training invites nonprofit professionals to hone the fundamentals of the nonprofit news business.

The Nonprofit News Business Certificate was developed by J+ at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, in partnership with the American Journalism Project and Blue Engine Collaborative. Scholarships to cover the $20,000 tuition are available thanks to generous support from Knight Foundation.

The rapidly expanding nonprofit news sector remains a key driver of local journalism across America and has benefited from visionary leadership. If nonprofit news is going to reach its potential to expand even farther, we’ll need even more incredible leaders capable of navigating the realities of nonprofit sustainability and developing impactful, community-driven journalism.

That’s why we created the Nonprofit News Business Certificate. Over 9 months, you’ll hone the business skills needed to lead a nonprofit news organization to sustainability. Together with a cohort of like-minded leaders, you’ll work on real-world projects with the help of expert coaches. And when you graduate, you’ll be ready to power nonprofit journalism to success in its next chapter.
